Catalog Field Labels
 
These labels are used for Catalog Product/Service Item descriptives. 
 
In your Control Panel you will find a link to the Catalog Field Labels Management Page that looks like this:
This is where you add/edit your Catalog field lables.

Your Catalog is already set up with default lables. The Catalog Field Label Management Page allows you to do two things:
1) Determine Lables for Catalog Fields Used
2) Decide whether or not to use a field with the Yes/No checkbox. (yes or no)

The Item Name (Field 1) and the Item Number (Field 2) fields are required when Adding and editing Catalog Items. The Item Name and the Item Number field lables themselves can be changed according to your naming needs, but must be used in order for your catalog to function properly.

You have 29 fields devoted to helping your define and describe your catalog items.  Some fields are required but most are optional.   Use them how you like to best serve your purpose. These Catalog Field labels are a necessary part of your website.  The main pages where editable Catalog item fields are displayed are:
  • Products Page Normal View (Public)
  • Products Page List View (Public)
  • Products Detail Page (Public)
  • Staff Contact Form (Public)
  • Products Manage Page (Mgmt Page)
  • Products Add Page (Mgmt Page)
  • Products Edit Page (Mgmt Page)
  • Products Duplicate Page (Mgmt Page)
  • others

**** When Labels Will Show: 
When your check the "Show" checkbox on the Catalog Field Labels management page, you activate the label to show on the Products Add, Edit and Duplicate Management pages.  This also causes the label to Show on Public pages. 

However, there is an exception.  With Public pages Showing a label and its content is conditional based upon whether or not you have content for the label.
For Example:  If you have a Field Label called Square Feet: but leave the field blank on one of your products, then that label will NOT show on public pages, bacause it was empty.  We have found it is counter-productive to show labels without content.

 
**** When Labels Won't Show: 
When you uncheck the "Show" checkbox on the Catalog Field Labels management page, you de-activate the label on the Products Add, Edit and Duplicate Management pages.  If Show is unchecked, no matter what, the label will NOT display on management pages and will NOT show on Public pages.


Grouping:  
To help you manage your Labels, we have grouped your Catalog Field Labels in three parts.
Group 1:  Labels 1 - 20
    These labels are your primary labels for Catalog Product/Services descriptives and definitions.  Such as Item Name, Item Number, Price, Size, Colors, Height, Weight, Square Feet, Acres, Rooms, etc.

Group 2:  Labels 21 - 25
    These five labels are locked.  While you cannot change these, you can decide whether or not to use them.  However, please understand that these field labels and their content are used for Directions to a location associated with your Catalog Item, such as a property or place.  Label content from 21, 22, 23 and 24 are used for intersection, street address,  city and state for use in getting directions from MapQuest.  So when a customer click your Directions icon on the Product Detail page and enter their address, MapQuest will then give them directions to the place you have entered in these content fields.

The Zipcode in Field 24, is used for mapping as well as the weather.com weather lookup.  When you are in Product Edit or Add, you have checkboxes for directions and Weather.  If you choose to show either of these, then your Product's Detail Page will depend on the content for these labels to bring up the right directions or weather. Directions and Weather Icon links will show in the Shopping Tools area if you select to show.  

Group 3:  Labels 26 - 29
    These four labels are used for link or file paths.  Simply put, they are fields for you to put link paths to places or pages on the web.  When you put something in their content text boxes, then a link icon will appear on the Product's Detail Page.

    FTP File Example: For Field 21-25, say...Field 21, if you uploaded an Adobe Acrobat PDF file to your FTP folder and wanted to link to it from this Product's Detail page, then here in Field 21, you would put the file path to that PDF document such as /Files/MyDocuments.pdf.  Then, once your saved the product in edit mode, a Icon link would appear on the Product Detail Page to that document under the Shopping Tools area.
    Website Example: Field 22, Say you wanted to link to another website from this Product's Detail page, then here in Field 22,  you would put the URL path to that site, such as Webs-a-gogo.  http://www.webs-a-gogo.com.  Then, once your saved the product in edit mode, an Icon link would appear on the Product Detail Page to that document under the Shopping Tools area.
    FTP Picture Example: Field 23. Say you uploaded a picture file FTP folder and wanted to link to it from this Product's Detail Page, then in Field 23, you would put the file path to that picture, such as  /Files/Picture.jpg, or whatever it was named. Then, once your saved the product in edit mode, an Icon link would appear on the Product Detail Page to that Picture under the Shopping Tools area.

The same would work for any file anywhere, any website, picture or anything else that is addressable with a URL on the web. You can create your own link from your Product's Detail Page to just about anywhere, just by putting the path in the content box for that Field Label.
