Q: What is a Cookie or Cookies, and why do I have to use them?
A:

Simply put, a cookie is data normally stored in a cookie file.  These cookies are for eating.  A cookie is information that a website puts on your computer so that it can remember something about you and your preferences when you return at a later time.

Technically speaking:  The communication between you and web servers out there is typically referred to as a “Client / Server Communication”.   You are the Client and we are the Server. Cookie information is stored for future use by the Server (Us) on the Client Side (You, or your computer).  Typically, a cookie records your preferences when using a particular site. Using the Web's Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), each request for a Web page is independent of all other requests. For this reason, the Web page server has no memory of what pages it has sent to a user previously or anything about your previous visits. A cookie is a mechanism that allows the server to store its own information about a user on the user's own computer. You can view the cookies that have been stored on your hard disk (although the content stored in each cookie may not make much sense to you). The location of the cookies depends on the browser.
Internet Explorer stores each cookie as a separate file under a Windows subdirectory.
Netscape stores all cookies in a single cookies.txt file.
FireFox stores all cookies in a single plain text cookies file.
Opera stores them in a single cookies.dat file.

When used by legitimate websites, Cookies are commonly used to enhance your browsing experience at their website. Cookies can help you in many ways to add convenience, personalization and even security.

Some examples of how cookies are used here at Webs-a-gogo and other sites are:
-Remembers your preferences, what you want to see, what you don’t, how you want to see it.
-Remembers your name to welcome you back
-Remembers your unique Customer ID at login time, as well as on secure pages in order to display the correct information about your account or preferences
-Remembers your username when logging into our website
-Remembers your Cart ID to show the items you have added to your favorites or cart
-Remembers which boxes you have expanded and which ones you have collapsed so you don’t have to redo it.
-Webs-a-gogo can recognize you when you return so we can greet you personally, and show you content you may have told us you prefer.  This way we don’t waste your time looking and reading through content you have already seen or may not want to see.

They can also be used to customize pages for you based on your browser type or other information you may have provided our Website. Web users must often agree at some point to let cookies be saved for them.  Even though this is not always the case, your computer settings will help to regulate cookies on your system as a form of protection. In general, cookies help legitimate websites serve you better and more efficiently.  When used properly by well intentioned companies with honest business practices, they can even be a luxury.

FINE PRINT: You can be sure that Webs-a-gogo will never misuse cookies in ways which may cause you harm or inconvenience.  Your trust in Webs-a-gogo is paramount to us.  We will NEVER use cookies or other web tools to distribute or sell or give your information away.  Our customers trust for a reason, and we intend to keep it that way.  When you say to Webs-a-gogo “yes, you can store this for me”, then that starts an unspoken pact of trust between us.  We take that to mean that you trust us to look out for you and not harm you…in any way.  And since we maintain an honest business practice based on trust, we will stand by that promise of honest business practices.  The truth is, we want your business now and forever, and so we find that treating our clients the way we want to be treated fosters trust and longevity.  So that’s that.  Unfortunately, you will run into many companies on the web, which make very good money by selling and/or leasing their client database.  We hate that!  We hate it when bad sites do it to us and we pledge to never do it to others. Period!  And when we can, we will warn you of them.
